14. Thoughts & Prayers

I just wish I could understand how we live in a world where we aren’t safe at an outdoor country music festival. I just wish I could understand how we live in a world where we have to worry about our safety no matter where we go, whether it’s a concert – indoor and outdoor – the movie theater, school, etc.

How did we come to this?

The mass shooting in Las Vegas is just another addition to the never ending list of random attacks on innocent people.

When will it end?

My eyes are watching the ongoing news about this situation, but my mind still can’t comprehend it. It’s just so terrifying to think that someone can be capable of something so horrific.

How could something like this happen?

Lately, it seems as though we are on edge just waiting for what will happen next. I feel like we can barely make it past one situation before another occurs. Whether it happens here or across the world, it hurts just the same. It still shakes us to the core, removing the safe, stable ground we’ve tried so hard to stand upon.

I have so many opinions on this sort of topic, especially concerning how and why certain individuals come to own guns, but I won’t go into that right now.

For right now, I’m just trying to work through my thoughts the best I can – thoughts that include the 58 people who have lost their lives and the 500+ people who are injured, trying to hold on.

I will also be thinking about those that have lost their family members, friends, and significant others because of one man who clearly should not have had access to a gun.

My prayers go out to them and everyone involved.

I can only hope that there will come a day when something like this cannot and will not happen.

This world may bring deep darkness, but we are the bearers of light. We’ll join our flames together, and shine in the blackest of nights.
